As part of the documentary presentation “Focus Schinkel: A Look at Life and Work”, events exploring Schinkel’s work and legacy have been held at the Friedrichswerder Church every two months since January 2024. These events, which take place on Thursdays at 18:30, alternate between “Schinkel Lectures” and “Schinkel Talks”. While the Lectures focus on sharing knowledge about Schinkel’s life and work as a versatile artist, the Talks take the form of moderated discussions exploring the question: “What can we learn from Schinkel’s personality and thinking for the present and the future?”
In 2026, the Schinkel Lectures and Schinkel Talks will continue to alternate every two months, with events held on the last Thursday of the month. The dates for 2026 are:
- February 26
- April 30
- June 25
- August 27
- October 29
- December 17
The Schinkel Lectures focus on Schinkel’s relationships with various contemporaries, while the Schinkel Talks explore his interactions with clients, his teaching at the Bauakademie, and the reception of his work in education and public engagement. Each event draws connections to the present and the future.
The next Schinkel Talk “Architects and developers/clients” will take place on February 26, 2025, from 18:30 to 20:00 at the Friedrichswerder Church, hosted by the Alte Nationalgalerie and the Federal Bauakademie Foundation. In the discussion we will take a journey from Schinkel’s relationship with his main client, King Frederick William III of Prussia, to the contemporary dynamics between architects and developers/clients.
