The students of the Beethoven-Gymnasium in Berlin presented their visionary designs for the future Bauakademie building at an event held by the Federal Bauakademie Foundation. The drawings and models at a scale of 1:100 are the fruits of a workshop program conducted by cooperation partner Ephra from August to December 2021 with three classes from different levels and from different neighborhoods in Berlin. The approximately 100 participants learned about various historical and current architectural styles and planning types in Berlin, built architectural models, and designed utopian cities of the future.
In addition to imaginative views on the future of building, the workshop also offered a preview of the planned Junior Academy that is currently being devised by the Federal Bauakademie Foundation. This place of learning outside of school is intended to introduce children and youth to topics of sustainable design and construction in a suitable way, in order to foster young talents and inspire them to later pursue vocational training or a course of study. The workshop was used for a study that looks at children’s and young people’s expectations of the construction sector. The study will form the basis for development of the Junior Academy.
