In order to illustrate the potential and qualities of serial, modular and systemic construction (SMSC), the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction (BMWSB) commissioned a brochure presenting good examples of SMSC with the aim of raising awareness of this building approach. Neitzel Consultants, the service provider commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction (BMWSB) and the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) to produce the brochure, has called for good examples of serial, modular and systemic construction to be submitted for publication.
Best practice projects of SMSC can be submitted digitally here until the 14th of November 2025.
Following the survey, the submitted projects will be evaluated by a jury, with the best projects to be published in the brochure. There are also plans to set up an online database listing some of the submitted housing projects.
A collection of good and best practices for SMSC is not only a valuable tool for optimising existing processes, but also serves as a central archive in which successful methods, innovative solutions and proven procedures are systematically recorded and structured. By documenting experiences from various projects, it enables valuable knowledge transfer within the industry.
Such a collection helps to promote serial and modular construction on a broad scale. It lowers the barriers to entry for new players by making proven practices accessible, thereby minimising the risk of implementation, and also highlights the potential of this innovative construction method. Companies, builders and planners who have previously been hesitant about this construction method will find well-founded arguments and practical examples in the best practice collection that build trust and can thus lead to further projects.
In this way, professionals can benefit from the insights of others, avoid potential pitfalls and optimise their own processes. The collection also promotes professional exchange and cooperation between different actors, leading to accelerated innovation and quality improvement.
The creation of the brochure also implements measures from the Round Table ‘Serial, Modular and Systemic Construction’ organised by the Federal Bauakademie Foundation. The long-term goal is to create a publicly accessible database that records as many projects as possible in serial, modular and systemic construction and makes this innovative construction method more visible.
Note: There is no need to resubmit projects that have already been submitted (1st submission phase at the end of 2024). These will be considered as planned in the further procedure.
