What to expect

Dr. Jan Mende, curator of the Knoblauchhaus at the Stadtmuseum Berlin Foundation and Schinkel expert, published his latest research in 2025 in the book: Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Great Artist, “Lonely Soul”? Drawing on the accounts of Schinkel’s contemporaries, he brings to life the story of the most important German architect of the 19th century.

Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781–1841) was a visionary who dedicated his life to art. Wa he a true socialite like Alexander von Humboldt? Most likely not. The question remains who was Karl Friedrich Schinkel, really? And who were the people closest to him?

For the first time, the book provides detailed insights into Schinkel’s living and working practices at the Bauakademie, offering fresh perspectives on the life of this remarkable architect. Another special feature: the publication was made possible thanks to 18 private donors.

No registration is required. We look forward to an engaging discussion about the most important German architect of the 19th century!
